FAQs

Gorslas School of Piano

Q. Do I need to own a piano? They are very expensive

A. No, a simple keyboard will suffice and if you think your family might object to the noise of a new musician, then perhaps a set of headphones to plug into it

Q. How long will it take to learn?

A. It depends on what you want to achieve! Children normally progress through 'grades' which are exams set by the schools of music, sometimes doing 1 or even 2 exams per year. Others decide to progress in a different direction and learn to play popular music and tunes they like rather than worry about exams. It's amazing how quickly you can pick out a tune, although if you are aiming for concert pianist standard, you might need a little more time!

Q. How much time does it take up?

A. As much as you like. Normally students have a lesson of 30 mins or an hour per week, and then need some time at home during the week to practise their lessons. The amount of practise will determine how quickly you progress.

Q. How much does it cost?

A. Keyboards and Pianos can be purchased second hand (or borrowed - you'd be surprised how many people have old keyboards tucked away in their attics). You don't need anything special - but make sure all the notes work. Old pianos can sometimes sound awful, but that is generally because they need some maintenance and tuning.

Music books are just a few pounds each.

Please call Janet for current lesson charges. All piano lessons are with Janet Wynne Chiaro, situated in Gorslas, near Crosshands. Parents are welcome to sit in on their children's lessons.
